SOLiCharger Frequently Asked Questions
What model iPhones does the SOLiCharger work with?
Both the original iPhone and the newer 3G iPhone.
Can I use the SOLiCharger to charge my iPod?
Yes. The SOLiCharger may not fit on all Apple® iPod® models. It does work on most Nano® and the newer iTouch® models. Because of the size difference with many older iPod models, the SOLiCharger will not work.
Why does the SOLicharger only provide a 50% charge to my iPhone?
The SOLiCharger is a backup or emergency battery pack, and not intended for everyday use to charge your iPhone. To keep the size and weight small, we use a very small Lithium-Ion battery and a small solar panel. Because of their size, they have a limited capacity for charging output and power storage. A 50% charge to your iPhone should be ample for 2-3 hours of use.
How long will it take to fully charge the SOLiCharger if it is totally dead?
If you are charging it using the solar panel, this depends on the intensity of the sun. In overcast conditions, it might take an entire day to charge it up. In bright, direct sun, it should fully charge in 4-5 hours. If you have access to power (either through your computer, a 12v auto accessory plug, or a 110v outlet) it will fully charge in under 2 hours.
How long will it take to charge my iPhone?
Depending on how dead your iPhone battery is, the SOLiCharger will take around two hours to fully discharge its battery power into you iPhone. This will give your iPhone up to 50% more power than it had before connecting the SOLiCharger.
Can I use my iPhone while the SOLiCharger is charging it?
Yes. If your iPhone battery is really dead, it will take 10-15 minutes to give it a ‘jump start’ before you will have enough power in your iPhone battery (at least 5%) for it to function. Your iPhone will show you your current battery state when you plug the SOLiCharger into it.
Can I charge both the SOLiCharger and my iPhone at the same time?
Yes. Simply plug the SOLiCharger into your iPhone, then plug your normal charging cord from a power source into the bottom of the SOLiCharger. Both the red ‘input’ light and the blue ‘output’ light will be glowing. When your iPhone is fully charged, the blue light will go out. When the SOLiCharger is full, the red light will turn green. Depending on how much power your phone and SOLiCharger need, this could take several hours.
How do I know when the SOLiCharger is full?
When charging, the red ‘input’ light will glow. When the SOLiCharger is full, this red light will turn green, indicating that it is full.
How do I know when the SOLiCharger is charging my phone?
The blue ‘output’ light on the SOLiCharger will be glowing. If it is not, wiggle the connection slightly to insure that it is well connected. If it is still not glowing, there may not be enough battery power in your SOLiCharger. In that case, it needs to be charged either in the sun or by your iPhone power cord.
Can I use my older iPod charging cords and devices with the SOLiCharger?
Yes. While your older cords and chargers may not work on your newer iPhone and iPods, they will work to charge your SOLiCharger.
Is the SOLiCharger waterproof?
NO! If either the female or male power connectors get wet, they may cease to function. If this happens, do not plug the SOLiCharger into your iPhone as it could damage it. There is no warranty for your SOLiCharger in the event it gets wet.
